If you’re planning an outdoor wedding in Worcestershire, this beautiful day at Arley Estate & Arboretum shows just how magical it can be — even when rain is forecast.

Set in the heart of the countryside near Bewdley, Arley Estate & Arboretum offers romantic gardens, sweeping greenery and elegant ceremony spaces — including the stunning Italian Garden.

An Outdoor Ceremony in the Italian Garden

The couple had always envisioned saying their vows outdoors in the Italian Garden at Arley Estate & Arboretum.

The forecast all week predicted rain.

But they held their nerve — and it paid off.

Instead of showers, we had soft sunshine filtering through the trees, creating the most beautiful light for their ceremony. Guests smiled throughout, the atmosphere was relaxed, and the gardens provided the perfect backdrop for natural, elegant photographs.

As a Worcestershire Wedding Photographer I suggest The Italian Garden at Arley Estate is ideal for couples who want:

  • A romantic countryside setting

  • Structured garden symmetry for portraits

  • An outdoor ceremony space that still feels intimate

The Sausage Tradition That Worked

The night before the wedding, the couple embraced a well-known British wedding superstition — burying sausages to prevent rain.

If you’ve never heard of it, the tradition involves burying sausages at the venue the evening before the wedding to ward off bad weather.

Throughout the morning, guests were laughing about it.

And whether coincidence or not — the rain never arrived.

Instead, we had dry skies, bright spells and a day that felt effortless from start to finish.

A Day Full of Smiles

One of the most noticeable things about this Arley Estate wedding was the warmth of the guests.

Everywhere I turned, people were smiling, relaxed and fully present.

That kind of atmosphere transforms wedding photography. When guests feel comfortable, the images feel genuine — not staged, not forced.

It allowed the couple to stay in the moment while everything unfolded naturally around them.

Golden Hour at Arley Estate & Arboretum

Although the sky stayed lightly overcast in the evening, we still stepped away for golden hour portraits.

At Arley Estate & Arboretum, the light softens beautifully across the gardens and arboretum pathways. Even without dramatic sunshine, the soft glow created timeless, romantic images.

Golden hour isn’t always about bold sunset colours — sometimes it’s about subtle warmth, calm energy and quiet moments together after a full day of celebration.
