A Romantic Proposal at Elmore Wild | Elmore Court, Gloucestershire

There are some proposals where you can feel the excitement before the question has even been asked.
Manish had put so much thought into making sure his proposal to Melissa went perfectly. They were staying in one of the beautiful treehouses at Elmore Wild, so he had the perfect excuse to plan a day out together without giving away what he had secretly arranged.
While he took Melissa for afternoon tea, I arrived early at Elmore Wild to quietly get everything ready.

A surprise proposal at Elmore Wild
Elmore Wild, part of the wider Elmore Estate in Gloucestershire, is such a beautiful setting for a proposal. Surrounded by nature, woodland and countryside, the estate is home to its distinctive luxury treehouses and sits alongside Elmore Court.
My job that afternoon was to arrive before them, get familiar with the area and make sure everything was exactly where it needed to be.
Meanwhile, Manish was keeping Melissa completely unaware of what was happening.
Taking her out for afternoon tea was the perfect distraction.
By the time they returned, everything was ready.
And then came the moment.

The moment he asked
There is only so much you can plan when it comes to a proposal.
You can plan the location, the flowers, the timing and the details, but you can't plan the reaction.
And Melissa's reaction was absolutely beautiful.
The tears came almost immediately.
It was one of those moments where everything else seemed to disappear for a little while — just the two of them, the excitement of what had just happened and the realisation that they were now engaged.
I stayed close enough to capture those first reactions while giving them space to enjoy the moment together.

Champagne, happy tears and a walk around Elmore Court
Once the initial excitement had settled, it was time to celebrate.
We had some champagne together before taking a relaxed stroll along the paths around the estate.
This is one of my favourite parts of photographing a proposal. Once the question has been asked, the pressure is gone. There is no more secret to keep, and couples can simply enjoy being together.
We wandered around the grounds overlooking Elmore Court, taking photographs as we went and letting the afternoon unfold naturally.
There was plenty of laughter, a few more emotional moments and lots of that newly-engaged excitement.
Elmore Wild proposal photography
I love photographing proposals because you get to capture a story rather than just a single moment.
The anticipation beforehand.
The surprise.
The reaction.
The first champagne toast.
And those quieter photographs afterwards, when it has finally sunk in that they are engaged.
For couples planning a surprise proposal at Elmore Wild or Elmore Court, having a photographer there means you don't have to choose between experiencing the moment and remembering it afterwards.
You get both.
And for me, that is what makes proposal photography so special.
If you're planning a proposal in Gloucestershire or the Cotswolds, I'd love to hear what you're dreaming up and help you capture the moment naturally, without making it feel like a photoshoot.
